Match Report from me this week because Jonny is too busy looking at something on his computer (something to do with animals, I think)!

The Girton A’s made the trip over to Burwell this week to play on a pitch that was more suitable for cows than for a football. The lads congregated in the changing rooms finding that the seats were covered in fake astro turf and that Tom ‘porky’ Buggs was unable to play because of particularly large calf that he had eaten the night before. The good news was that Matt ‘Draco Malfoy’ Knight was back in the side. The line up also featured Phil, V man, and Neil.
Paul Buggs ran us through the starting positions that had the surprise of Laurence McGeoghegan who had been promoted to striker and the unsurprising fact that Jonny ‘internet history’ Shevlane was to be started as a linesman.
The game itself was closer than the score suggests even though we should have scored more and conceded less. Laurie managed to bag himself two and should have had two more. Phil also scored twice and also should have had more but unlike Laurie he should have had a lot more, perhaps another 4. He managed to miss where it was easier to score which sounds very like myself on a Saturday night.
The other four goals came from V man and Callum, who came on late in the game to earn his first caps in a Girton united A team side. I would go into greater depth about how and when the goals were scored but to be honest I can’t remember. It’s better to ask Jonny who had a much better view of the game from the touch line.
A special mention also has to go to Malcolm who I personally thought did an excellent job as a step in referee despite a rather dubious yellow card that he awarded to V Man for dissent. V man after the game accepted his yellow card saying, ‘I may as well keep up the tradition of only getting booked as a result of rubbish decisions’.
Overall it was a good result for the A’s as we looked to get back to winning ways ahead of our colossal clash with Longstanton this coming weekend. We hope to have our 1st choice match report writer back to document the tie, but at the moment he is suffering from foot and mouth.
